BELMONT — In celebration of apple season in New Hampshire, Gov. Chris Sununu will pick the ceremonial first apple at Stone Mountain Farm, 522 Laconia Road, on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 11:30 a.m. Gov. Sununu will be joined by the NH Department of Agriculture, Markets & Food, the New Hampshire Fruit Growers Association, and Stone Mountain Farm Owners Joe and Cindy Rolfe.
Stone Mountain Farm has been in the Rolfe family since 1963 and was converted into a high-density apple orchard by its current owners in 2009. For more information about the farm, visit stonemtnfarm.com.
In the most recent USDA Census of Agriculture, New Hampshire farmers reported producing 469 bushels per acre on 1,458 acres of apples. That equates to over 28 million pounds of apples grown in the state for wholesale, retail, and pick-your-own sales along with value added products like cider, jams, and baked goods.
