It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Steven Thomas Holly of East Bend, North Carolina. He passed from this world on Dec. 2, 2025, at the age of 51, at the W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family.
Steven was born in Plantation, Florida, to parents Thomas and Kathleen (Patrick) Holly. In 1983, the family moved to Moultonborough, where he attended school. Early in his life Steve developed a love of sports, especially baseball. A highlight for him was hitting the winning home run in the state championship game his senior year, when the team was down by two runs, had two outs, and bases were loaded. He carried on his love for the sport by coaching youth teams, and he remained an avid Red Sox fan.
After graduating from Moultonborough Academy, Steve proudly served in the United States Air Force. Driven by a lifelong desire to protect, guide and serve others, Steve devoted the first part of his professional life to law enforcement, serving in New Hampshire as a police officer, D.A.R.E. instructor, cadet training instructor, and school resource officer. Leadership and teaching came naturally to Steve and he was a positive influence in the lives of countless young people and community members.
Steve then transitioned into the financial sector as a financial advisor, eventually becoming vice president of surveillance oversight and monitoring. During his tenure as VP he earned his master of business administration — an accomplishment that reflected his determination, discipline, and commitment to continuous growth. Steve also served as a Mason, an achievement that represented his character, values, and dedication to service.
It was at this point in his life that he moved to North Carolina, and together with his wife, Crystal (Say) Holly, began to pursue their shared passion for martial arts. Steve worked hard and achieved a fourth degree black belt in taekwondo, earning the title of Master Holly, and Family Kicks Martial Arts school was created. It literally became a family endeavor in which his whole family was involved, building a community centered on confidence, discipline, compassion and personal growth. Their students and staff became an extension of their family. The lessons taught by Steve, both on and off the mat, continue to ripple through the lives he touched. His passing has left a deep sense of loss to his family, friends, students and community.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Crystal (Say) Holly; his children, Joseph Holly, Ashley Holly, Jade Holly and Ruby Holly; as well as his parents, Tom and Kathy Holly; sisters Jenny (Holly) Knowles and husband Tim, and Sandy (Holly) Benard and husband Matt. Steve was loved and respected by his nieces and nephews, Emma Knowles, Justin Knowles, Kevin Benard and Madeline Benard. He will also be greatly missed by many aunts, uncles and cousins, old and new friends and community members.
A celebration of Steven's life will be held at a later date. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
