Christmas Village celebrates 50 years

Laconia Mayor Charlie St. Clair, third from right, receives the key to Christmas Village on Thursday evening from Rudy Hawkins, the mayor of Christmas Village, center in red. Also pictured, in the front row from left, are Mrs. Claus and Santa Claus, Dirk Nadon of Lakes Media, Ward 4 Councilor Mark Haynes, Ward 5 Councilor Steven Bogert, and volunteer Sami O'Connor. In the back row, from left, are volunteers Travis O'Hara, Kylie Sanville and Emily Courson. Christmas Village at the Laconia Community Center on Union Avenue is open now through this weekend. Hours are 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, and 2-5 p.m. on Dec. 6-7, and kids and their families can meet Santa, enjoy cookies, and leave with a gift. "We are so lucky to have such dedicated volunteers to put on [Christmas] Village, it's just an incredible thing," St. Clair said. "This is an honor that I will treasure for the rest of my life."
