To The Daily Sun,
I have been curious about the new policy regarding letters to the editor. What has made these letters so captivating for me is because they offered, passionate and vigorous debate over issues of the day. Something lost on college campuses today. I cannot improve on Thomas Bogan's query about this policy. I find my happy place on the Hallmark Channel and classic rock and roll.
The great Sam Cooke sang about "A Change is Gonna Come" in 1963. It was not about putting a quieter, softer approach to free speech to ensure it was always civil but more about letting the truth shine through even when discordant.
"Threats to freedom of speech, writing and action, though often trivial in isolation, are cumulative in their affect, and unless checked, lead to a general disrespect for the rights of the citizen." ― George Orwell.
I heard that Hollywood is making a movie about George Orwell's, "1984," with capitalism as the villain. Irony can be satirical. It can also be deadly if ignored. I have always appreciated The Sun's embrace of robust free speech. Please do not let it succumb to a slow and painful death.
