To The Daily Sun,

The Laconia Human Relations Committee has expressed a plan to resettle 250 people from Africa and the Middle East in the Lakes Region. Does anyone else think this is a bad idea? Affordable housing is nearly nonexistent, very few jobs available in the Lakes Region, health care services are strained. Almost impossible to find a family physician right now and the wait in the ER is often 3-6 hours depending on the day of the week.

Other cities that have tried this have experienced many problems.

Many of these people just refuse to assimilate. They keep their own language, lifestyle and are overwhelming schools, hospitals and social services.

Every time someone raises the question of immigration, proponents immediately play the race card but it is hardly racist to want to preserve our way of life and protect our health care system, schools and social services.

The committee has a mission of treating everyone with dignity, fairness, respect and kindness, and I totally agree with that effort, but we should be directing those efforts at our own citizens that are in need. Many families are struggling. Homeless and veterans could all use help. Good intentions but a bad idea.
