To The Daily Sun,

WMUR's report recently on John E. Sununu's renewed push to change Social Security has me steaming.

Look what Republicans in Washington have done to working people.

In less than two years, they cut Medicaid to pay for tax breaks favoring corporations and the wealthy.

They let ACA subsidies lapse, pushing hundreds of thousands off medical coverage.

They tightened SNAP rules, and over 5 million Americans have lost food benefits.

Their tariffs have raised prices on everyday goods, and their silence let the president drag us into a war with Iran that has pushed New Hampshire gas from $3.05 a year ago to $4.38 today and rising.

Mr. Sununu says he'd have voted for Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill, which made those cuts. Thanks, John.

Now, if all of that isn't enough, he wants to revisit Social Security reform, just as he did 20 years ago when, as a senator, he put forward a plan to steer half our Social Security payroll taxes into private investment accounts. Remember that?

PolitiFact rates it largely accurate that he wanted to privatize Social Security.

Asked about it now, he says, “That was 20 years ago.” Yet he still stands by it. He can't have it both ways.

Either it's ancient history or it's his plan.

I collect Social Security. I paid into it every week of my working life on a promise, not a stock tip.

His defenders say the accounts were voluntary. A voluntary gamble is still a gamble, and it takes money from the pot that pays our checks.

Sununu was still pushing private accounts months before the 2008 financial crash.

Seniors, Sununu's itch to tinker with Social Security is reason enough to give him the boot. Vote for Chris Pappas on Nov. 3.
