To The Daily Sun,

For many couples, learning they can't have children due to infertility problems is devastating. Fortunately, recent advances in biomedicine have made all but the most difficult cases resolvable.

In particular, in-vitro fertilization has helped many Americans and New Hampshire residents start families. It's also starting to be used for other purposes, including screening for genetic diseases, which prevents children from inheriting painful conditions. As a result, IVF's popularity is projected to explode in the coming years, even among couples without fertility issues. In the more distant future, it’s likely to be legally required to undergo IVF screenings in order to ensure the health and safety of all newborns.

According to a Pew survey, 70% of Americans support IVF access, while only 8% oppose it. Even among those who generally oppose abortion, only 11% view IVF negatively.

It comes as a surprise, then, that it has become fashionable among the GOP to oppose IVF access. Some have gone so far as to express support for bans. This is perplexing because they have offered no coherent reasoning or arguments in favor of such restrictions. What sort of cost-benefit analysis could possibly lead one to conclude that access to IVF is undesirable? Perhaps it is simply an extension of the disturbing anti-technology, anti-medicine ideology espoused by many right-wing extremists.

Concerns about IVF restrictions in NH are not unfounded — a recent Alabama Supreme Court ruling caused many IVF clinics to pause services due to legal uncertainties.

Candidate for state Senate in District 2 Carlos Cardona strongly supports IVF access. His family has benefited from it, and he's committed to protecting the right to assistive reproductive technology. This is just one of the many ways Cardona promises to preserve and expand the liberties of Granite Staters.

This November, keep New Hampshire free. Vote Cardona.
