Sachem Morgan Trefrey snags state championship in javelin, 5th in New England

Morgan Trefrey, right, a 10th grader at Laconia High School, celebrates with track Coach Pan Pradachith, at the New England Track & Field Championship, in North Berwick, Maine, on June 13. This season, Trefrey broke a 22-year standing record for Sachems girls javelin, and didn't stop. First, Trefrey came out on top at the NHIAA DIII outdoor championship in Pelham, on May 31, where she threw 118 feet and 11 inches, and also earned third place in shot put. Then, at the Outdoor Meet of Champions at Oyster River, in Durham, on June 6, Trefrey threw a whopping 124 feet, 2 inches, again coming first. At the New England championship, held at Noble High School, Trefrey bested herself again, throwing a monster 127 feet, and placed fifth. The three-sport athlete also plays volleyball and basketball. (Courtesy photo)
