COLEBROOK — An ATV rider from Gilford died in a rollover crash on Saturday, and New Hampshire Fish and Game officers are investigating what happened.

New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officers were notified of a serious ATV rollover crash at 10:22 a.m., on July 4, on the Corridor 5 trail. The Colebrook Fire Department and 45th Parallel EMS were also first responders on the scene.

Members from the riding group performed CPR at the site of the crash before first responders arrived, and emergency medics continued lifesaving attempts. The efforts were unsuccessful and the rider, Keith Loureiro, 53, of Gilford, died at the scene. An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, in Concord, is pending.

Loureiro had been operating ATV on the trail, with family members. NH Fish and Game Capt. Michael Eastman said the crash was a result of high speeds. Loureiro was attempting to catch up with his group, and increased his speed downhill, lost control and hit the lip of the trail. This caused him to flip, and his vehicle to roll over three times. One of the times, the vehicle came down on him, crushing his chest.

According to his obituary, Loureiro was a mechanic, and most recently worked four Irwin Chevrolet. He enjoyed working with vehicles of all types, and spent a lot of time riding off-road in the North Country.

A separate group of riders who left the scene are being sought for questioning. The investigation is still ongoing. Eastman said they are seeking more information, and anyone with information, or who witnessed the accident, should contact Conservation Officer Benjamin Harmon at 603-271-3361 or Benjamin.D.Harmon@wildlife.nh.gov.
