MOULTONBOROUGH — Castle in the Clouds has partnered with Adapt Your Adventure to make its field trips more accessible, engaging, and welcoming for all students. This initiative was led by Director of Education & Partnerships at Castle in the Clouds Debbi Finkelstein who brought in Adapt Your Adventure to help strengthen the site’s educational offerings for diverse learners — including students with autism, non-verbal students, and those who experience challenges with reading, math, or traditional classroom settings.

Adapt Your Adventure, founded by educator Jane Geary, works with museums, cultural sites, and educational destinations to adapt existing programs using a universal design for learning approach. For Castle in the Clouds, this partnership included a full review of field trip offerings, on-site observations of school groups, and the creation of tools and strategies to make learning more inclusive.

Examples of the updates include:

Visual vocabulary cards that help students understand and follow along, even if they struggle with reading or verbal communication.

Multi-sensory activities that invite hands-on participation and make history and nature come alive for different learning styles.

Staff training focused on practical ways to support students of varying abilities during field trips.

“Every student deserves the chance to connect with the rich history and natural beauty of places like Castle in the Clouds,” said Geary. “Our role is to help organizations open doors to learners who might otherwise feel left out, and Castle in the Clouds has been an incredible partner in making that vision a reality.”
