To The Daily Sun,

Last week people gathered on Main Street in Tilton to watch the removal of the Tilton Island Bridge. This irreplaceable historic landmark will be restored off-site and reinstalled in approximately one year.

Kudos to the town for showing the initiative to save this cast- and wrought- iron bridge, the only bridge of its kind in the country. Preservation of special places is what makes our New Hampshire communities so unique.

As the NH Preservation Alliance chair, there are many others to acknowledge who helped make this happen: the Land and Community Heritage Investment Program that provided the grant funds to do an assessment and recommendations report; the NH Preservation Alliance for recognizing the bridge as a Seven to Save property; and last but certainly not least, Pat Clark of Tilton who brought forward the idea to apply for a congressionally directed spending grant from Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, thereby making this project possible.
