To The Daily Sun,

It is very upsetting that history is not being preserved in Laconia. The Harris Family Furniture store on Union Avenue is being purchased by Irwin and the historical building is being torn down. Why can't Irwin stay in the building, change its use and just as importantly, why isn't the Laconia Historical Society or city council saying "no" to the teardown while preserving some Laconia history which is so needed? What's the point of having history restrictions if the officials are not going to enforce them to protect our history?

Next, the New Hampshire Boat Museum was donated the "Mini Mount Washington" boat a few years back. Now, the boat has been sold. Everyone has visited and seen many, many old wooden boats and we all agree they are fun to look at, but there is only one "Mini Mount." Pretty disappointing this boat was sold and that the museum did not even offer it back to the donor or previous owner first so that he could donate it somewhere else.

On to Kimball's Castle: Who advised the owners they had to tear it down and claimed it to be unsafe should be out of a job. This late 1800s castle in any condition could have been fenced off for safety reasons until such time a conscientious decision could be made by the owners on what to do. We can build the City of Boston to drive under the ocean, but needed to rush to tear down four walls. Structural supports could have been used to prevent this huge mistake. Maybe, the owners can build a "mini castle" out of the stone materials while they build the rest of the site to pressure some of the history in the stone.

Doesn't anyone care about our history in the Lakes Region?
