SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Tara Leigh (Mitchell) Asher, 54, passed away unexpectedly in Sacramento, California, on Aug. 5, 2025.
Born on Aug. 26, 1970, in San Francisco to Harry Mitchell and Dianne Hernandez, Tara lived in California and Guam, before her family settled in the Lakes Region, where she was raised by Harry J. and Deborah S. Mitchell of Laconia.
Tara was active in Altrusa and cheerleading at Laconia High School before graduating in 1988. She worked extensively in the Lakes Region in the hospitality industry, making many friends before relocating to the Sacramento area.
Tara loved her family, her husband David, and her two dogs. She was a lifelong voracious reader, and her other hobbies included painting, fashion, and spending time with her pets.
Tara Leigh will be remembered by her family as a kind soul who filled her surroundings with joy. Anyone who knew Tara would remember her as a vivacious person who radiated an energetic charm. Her energy and fond memories will be cherished now that her journey of life is complete. To paraphrase the lyrics of Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee, Tara’s heart was like an open book, for the whole world to read.
Tara is survived by her loving husband, David Asher of Citrus Heights, California; Harry Mitchell and wife Deborah of Laconia; her daughters, Amanda Salanitro of Sacramento, California, and Ashley Albert and her husband Curtis and two grandchildren of Gilford, New Hampshire; her brothers, Kyril Mitchell and wife Kelly of Gilmanton, New Hampshire, and Kaileif Mitchell and wife Katherine of Plymouth, Massachusetts; sister Tikatia Morris and husband Jeremiah of Berlin, New Hampshire; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers and to honor Tara Leigh’s life-long love of animals, please consider donating to the New Hampshire Humane Society or your local, non-lethal, animal shelter.
Calling hours will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 13, with a time of remembrance at 2:30 p.m. in the Carriage House at Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia, NH.

Rest in peace sweet Tara, you deserve it. I’ll always remember my middle school girlfriend and sitting next to in class and when we went to see Romeo and Juliet. You turned me into a reader and I never stopped. Many warm memories of playing cards together and my first kiss. 😚 💕
