BELMONT — A local intersection may be converted to a four-way stop following Wednesday's selectboard meeting, and if approved, converting the intersection is just another way to keep the community safe.
“I believe it is a hold-your-breath intersection,” said Craig Clairmont, the town's director of public works and highways.
The intersection of Middle Route and Hoadley Road, located on the northeast side of town, is currently a two-way stop, but staff at public works think it’s time for a safety consideration. If the selectboard approves the proposal, a public hearing will be held.
“Craig is prepared to do an overview” during the meeting, said Alicia Jipson, town administrator. Calls for more information about the intersection to the Belmont Fire Department, including whether it is a high-accident location, were not returned by press time.
When asked if there were other highlights on the agenda, Jipson said “nope.”
Additional items scheduled for discussion or vote during the meeting include police and fire department resignations, revisions to the solid waste ordinance and acceptance of old business.
Old business items include a follow-up on the recent leak detection survey conducted by the town’s highway department alongside American Leak Detection Specialists. In July, the town was awarded a Water System Leak Detection Grant by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Drinking Water and Groundwater Bureau.
Clairmont will also provide an update on a Water & Sewer Cyber Security grant the department applied for.
The board will review its acceptance of cash policy and the sale of a piece of town-owned property, as well as highlight the auction of a Jamestown Road property. A proposal will be heard to amend the term lengths for supervisors of the checklist.
Also at Wednesday's selectboard meeting, minutes from non-public meeting on Aug. 6 will be approved. The selectboard's scheduled meeting on Aug. 20 was canceled for lack of agenda items, according to Jipson. A public comments section will be held following the new and old business portions of the meeting.
The meeting takes place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at the Belmont Mill, 14 Mill St. All previous agendas, minutes and meetings can be viewed online at belmontnh.org/Pages/Index/50704/board-of-selectmen, or find Belmont NH - Town Meetings on YouTube.
