To The Daily Sun,
This past spring, Laconia High School students undertook a semester-long project-based course called “Communiversity” to learn about the key components of communities through the subjects of science, social studies and art.
At the end of their five-month course, students took what they learned and collaboratively created a sustainable community plan for the State School property. As students, they see interesting possibilities for the property and communicated their ideas during a community exposition day at the end of the school year. The course resulted in 75% of students earning three credits and passing each of the three content areas.
The data is very encouraging. Students worked hard and so many of them demonstrated tremendous growth throughout the semester. Communiversity teachers will be asking a new group of young people to undertake the same project in the spring. Staff and students would love to network with the community on this. As the community discusses the best use of the property, ask our young people their thoughts. They are such a resource and will ultimately be the leaders in Laconia. To find out more, please reach out to Laconia High School. Staff and students would love to connect with you.
