Sgt First Class John Brown, of Laconia, lost 50 pounds to get back in the Amy uniform he served in for 24 years so he could participate in the annual Laconia Independence Day parade. “While John was in uniform, you could see in his smile the pride and honor he felt to be a soldier,” wrote Betty Brown, John’s wife, who submitted this photo on July 8. She credits the American Legion with helping Brown prioritize his health so he could celebrate America250.
