MEREDITH — Alvin Vernal Drake, son of Vernal and Janet Drake, passed away on July 2, 2026, at home in Meredith.

Alvin was born in Laconia, on June 4, 1953, and grew up in New Hampton, with his five siblings, Susan Allen (husband Peter) of Gilford, Linda Normandin (husband Paul, predeceased) of Belmont, Brenda Moynihan (husband Keith) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Betty Bilodeau (husband Guy) of Manchester, and William Drake of Gaffney, South Carolina. He graduated from Newfound Memorial High School in 1971.

Alvin was proud of this three sons, Jacob Drake of Thornton, Michael Drake of Savanah, Georgia, and Daniel Drake of Windham, Maine. He treasured the time he was able to spend with his two grandsons, Roo and Wilder.

He was a true craftsman and skilled woodsman, much of which was learned from his father. Alvin had the ability to craft all the lumber for his house from his own land. He cut the trees and shaped them into the size he needed. They were then sent off to the kiln. When returned, he cut and sized them to build his house. He was proud to tell you exactly what tree each piece of lumber in his house came from.

He had a beautiful workshop with every tool needed to complete the job. Alvin passed on his skills to his son Jacob, who continues to work in the construction business.

Alvin was predeceased by his parents, as well as his daughter-in-law Margaret, the wife of his son Daniel and mother of Roo and Wilder, and his nephew Douglas Moyer.

It was Alvin’s wish to have no service.
