To The Daily Sun,
Bruce Cheney has served on the city council for seven years, and while I applaud anyone willing to step up and serve, it's time to ask the hard question: what's changed? The same problems are still around, and the same voices are still bringing forward the same solutions. If we haven't seen major change with Bruce on the council, why would things be any different if he were mayor?
There have been letters to The Daily Sun and comments online that have serious concerns about trust and transparency. That matters. Leadership must be open, honest and accountable, not defensive and dismissive. Despite denying it Mr. Cheney is also tied to some notorious individuals in Belknap County who tried to shut down Gunstock. There are several online posts showing him with individuals he's claimed he doesn't know.
I applaud Bruce for getting into the race, but Laconia doesn't need more of the same. We need new ideas, and an end to the "good old boys club" that's been stagnating this city for far too long. Real change takes new faces, not just in the mayor's office, but in the entire city council.
