Kristin Bastille, owner of Defiant Records & Craft Beer, opened The Candy Bar at 609 Main St. on Tuesday, a new candy store in downtown Laconia. The store offers candy and chocolates, as well as roasted nuts from The Nutty Bavarian, and fudge from Sanbornton-based Van's Homemade Fudge. Bastille will soon add more candy to the collection, including Jelly Bellys, various European and healthier organic candy, and seasonal candy, including for Easter. The new store will also act as a facade for a 1920s-style speakeasy, which customers will enter through a retro, Coca-Cola-themed door in the shop. Bastille expects the speakeasy to open in late spring or early summer. The Candy Bar is now open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday, and 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday. Summer hours may vary.
