Emmett Lasata, age 7, sits on a bench at the empty Pleasant Street School playground. "I saw him sitting there and it felt like such a surreal moment," wrote his mother, Taylor Thanas. "Just the epitome of what I imagine most kids are feeling like right now. I sat next to him and asked him what he was thinking about, and he said, 'I miss school Mom, when is this going to be over?' My heart broke for him. When I started to point out what a beautiful day it was, how pretty the trees were, how nice the weather was, how grateful I was to be able to stay home with him, he agreed, but I could tell he didn’t want to be told any of that. So I just sat with him and let him be quiet with his own thoughts. Then I promised popsicles when we got back, and let him take the break he needed. These little kids still have big emotions."
