The Sandwich Fair attracted thousands of visitors on Sunday, who packed the small Carroll County town on the northern side of Lake Winnipesaukee. The fair, scheduled annually on Columbus Day weekend, started as an agricultural event, and those roots are still apparent today. Farmers display livestock like sheep, horses and cows, and compete in activities like tractor and horse pulls. Admission to the fair allows visitors to take part in a massive carnival, complete with dozens of the typical, exhilarating rides and a ferris wheel, plus helicopter rides. On Sunday afternoon, a long parade traversed the fairgrounds and featured musical groups, classic cars, horses and the Inter-Lakes High School marching band. Streets throughout town were packed with vehicle traffic, and parking lots nearby the fairgrounds were full by mid-morning on Sunday. The fair began Saturday morning and ran until Monday — Columbus Day — evening.
