Position on issues

Broad-based sales tax: Against

Broad-based income tax: Against

Business tax decrease: Against

Capital gains tax: Against

Minimum wage increase: "Minimum wage increases tend to hurt those they are designed to help. This needs to be done cautiously, tied to cost of living, etc."

Encourage local zoning changes for housing development: For

Increase funding for child care providers: "This is needed, but needs to be done thoughtfully with all other options exhausted."

Majority of public school funding through local property taxes: "What we are doing is not working. The most important resource we have is an educated public, and the most important responsibility we, as citizens, have, is to pursue an education. The level of disparity across the state is concerning, and needs to be addressed."

"Education Freedom Account" program: "I am fine with EFA as long as it does not adversely affect public education. That is the challenge."

Marijuana legalization with home-growing, no sales: "This needs to be done very cautiously. We have a 'budding' epidemic of cannabis use disorder which is largely unrecognized, and will adversely affect the productivity of our citizens, particularly our young ones. With that said, the system of punishment enacted over the past 90 years has created more harm than the drug, so the system needs to change."

Marijuana legalization with private sales: "This needs to be done very cautiously. We have a 'budding' epidemic of cannabis use disorder which is largely unrecognized, and will adversely affect the productivity of our citizens, particularly our young ones. With that said, the system of punishment enacted over the past 90 years has created more harm than the drug, so the system needs to change."

Marijuana legalization with state-run stores: "This needs to be done very cautiously. We have a 'budding' epidemic of cannabis use disorder which is largely unrecognized, and will adversely affect the productivity of our citizens, particularly our young ones. With that said, the system of punishment enacted over the past 90 years has created more harm than the drug, so the system needs to change."

Repeal ban on abortion after 24 weeks: "I supported and spoke on behalf of HB 224 which would repeal mandatory sentencing guidelines for elective 3rd trimester abortion and would return oversight back to the medical board. This portion of the fetal life protection act is legislative overreach and borderline unconstitutional. It will harm women with high-risk pregnancies by exacerbating shortages of obstetricians and fetal-maternal specialists. As there has been no 3rd trimester elective abortion in this state in the past 50 years, the previous statute worked fine. This portion of the act is a 'solution looking for a problem,' while creating a much bigger problem and it needs to be changed."
