BELMONT — A Portsmouth woman totaled her car on Route 106 on Monday afternoon, saying the vehicle left the roadway and struck a guardrail while she was reaching for something. She was uninjured in the crash.

Belmont police received a 911 call at 2:25 p.m., reporting that a car had struck the guardrail, spinning 180 degrees before coming to rest facing the wrong way in the southbound lane, across from Lakes Region Fiberglass.

Police identified the driver as Erika Lane, 25, of Portsmouth.

Traffic was reduced to one-way until a tow truck could remove the disabled 2008 Nissan.

Capt. Richard Mann said, “This is just one example of how dangerous a momentary distraction inside your vehicle can be. A number of our collisions along this heavily traveled route have been attributed to driver inattention or distraction. This crash reminds us all that we must give 100% attention to the road at all times. It takes mere seconds to have a disastrous incident.”
