Well, we certainly didn’t expect this to happen! NCIS and its prequel, NCIS: Origins, will be crossing over in the 2025-2026 season!
Yes, the shows set in 2025 and the ’90s will be joining forces … in a way. As Wilmer Valderrama (Nick Torres, NCIS) and Austin Stowell (Leroy Jethro Gibbs, NCIS: Origins) announce in the video above, on Tuesday, November 11, there will be a two-part crossover. Valderrama calls it “an NCIS crossover event like no other,” while Stowell adds, “The goal: to resolve a case at that spans decades.” Watch the announcement above.
The two shows will be swapping time slots for the event, with NCIS taking Origins‘ 9/8c slot. That’s because it all begins on the prequel, with Gibbs and the team investigating a small-town death of a naval officer in the ’90s, and that case will be unexpectedly reopened in the present day on the mothership.
This is far from the first crossover for the franchise. There have been crossovers over the years with NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, and NCIS: Hawai’i, including a three-show event with the mothership, LA, and Hawai’i. And single characters have appeared across the franchise as well. Last season, NCIS even mentioned the Sydney team (no one appeared). And LL Cool J did reprise his LA and Hawai’i role as Sam Hanna on the mothership in the spring.
We already know of an actor crossing over from the mothership to the Origins prequel this fall as well: Adam Campbell, who played Young Ducky across four episodes of NCIS, will reprise the role on the prequel in its tribute to the late David McCallum. That episode, titled “The Edge” for the McCallum song that will be featured in it, does not yet have a date. In it, “Ducky is sent to Camp Pendleton to shadow the team while they work a case and, in the process, he reconnects with Gibbs after the two crossed paths years earlier.”
