Shirley M. Reed, 92

ALEXANDRIA — It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley May (Lamos) Reed, who left this world peacefully at home on July 15, 2026, surrounded by her cherished family. Born on Sept. 12, 1933, in the quaint town of St. Albans, Vermont, Shirley was a beacon of love and resilience throughout her remarkable 92 years.

The daughter of Ida May Kennison and Percy Lamos, Shirley was the second youngest of 12 siblings, and she outlived her parents and all her brothers and sisters. A lifelong fan of Elvis Presley, Shirley could often be found dancing and singing to his timeless tunes, her spirit as vibrant as the music she loved.

In 1952, Shirley married her soulmate, George Kenneth "Shorty" Reed, embarking on a love story that would span decades until his passing. Together, they built a life rich in love and laughter, welcoming into the world their beloved children, son Wayne Reed and daughters Elaine Reed and Teresa Reed. Her children blessed her with her grandchildren, Billy Haskell II (married to Dawn Haskell), Ebony Perry (married to David Perry), Kristy Wilson (married to Michael Wilson) and Katie Roberts. Shirley was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, her family serving as the centerpiece of her world. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her nine great-grandchildren, Natalie Haskell, Tyler Haskell, Hayley (Haskell) Thomson and Logen Haskell; Olivia Robie, Emily Robie, and Owen Robie; Timothy Wilson and Krista Wilson; and two great-great-grandchildren, each a testament to the enduring bonds she nurtured.

A homemaker by trade, Shirley’s home was a sanctuary of warmth and comfort. She possessed a green thumb, tending to her favorite flowers and plants with care and delight. Her love for animals was evident in the way she nurtured every creature she encountered. In quieter moments, she could be found immersed in coloring, painting, or challenging her mind with crosswords and word searches, always eager to learn and create.

Shirley was blessed with a colorful personality and a generous heart. Her love for music and dancing, coupled with her quick wit, made her the life of every gathering. Her spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In accordance with Shirley’s wishes, there will be no services.
