FRANKLIN — Edmond “Ed” Merrill, 93, a lifetime resident of Franklin, died peacefully at his home on Nov. 5, 2025.

Ed was born on March 20, 1932. He was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire's agricultural school.

He worked in construction by trade, spending time at both Bonnette, Page & Stone and Bean Construction. At Merrill Farm, he raised beef cattle, pigs, sheep and chickens and made maple syrup. He was the former president of NH Maple Producers and NH Pork Producers’ associations. He had a blacksmith shop, enjoyed metal working and was an excellent welder. He was a gifted man who could build almost anything from wood or metal. If he needed something but couldn’t get it, he would fabricate it in his shop.

Ed served on the Franklin Cemetery Board and was a former alderman. Ed looked forward to the standing 10 a.m. coffee with his good friend and neighbor, Eero Jarvi, where they shared stories of past and present.

Ed is predeceased by his wife, Fukiko Merrill; his parents, James L. and Eva D. (Labonte) Merrill; brother Raymond; and sister June Ladd.

He is survived by a niece, Candice Jarosz of Newmarket; and her children, Michelle Jarosz of New York and Ryan Jarosz of New Hampshire.

Eero would like to thank the Franklin VNA and Comfort Keepers for their amazing care.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, at the Franklin Cemetery, 31 Thompson St.

The Thibault-Neun Funeral Home, 143 Franklin St., is assisting the family with arrangements.
