LACONIA — Amanda Jay "Mandy" Ewing, born Sept. 24, 1953, died unexpectedly May 7, 2026, at the age of 72.

Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, to Malcolm and Evelyn Ewing, Mandy grew up in Plaistow and Atkinson, and earned her nursing degree from New Hampshire Technical College in Claremont.

Mandy spent most of her career as an emergency room nurse at Lakes Region General Hospital and also worked at the Laconia Clinic, where her steady hands, gentle humor, and deep care touched countless lives. She also used her skills to help many elderly friends live fuller, happier lives. Mandy was previously active with the Lakes Region Community Response Team.

A longtime Laconia resident, Mandy was a warm and steady presence in the community and a member of the Lake Winnipesaukee Yacht Club, where she loved taking her beloved dog Molly for a swim. A lifelong advocate for animals, she believed life was better with a dog and shared her home over the years with Belle, Lilly and Molly. Mandy was a talented woodworker and crafter, earning awards for pieces she made from a deep desire to create personalized gifts for loved ones. She also took great joy working in her garden. Her nieces and nephews fondly remember her playful sense of humor, from her gumball machine to the legendary Kermit-the-Frog launch from the ceiling fan.

She is survived by her brother David and his wife Kathryn Ewing of Gilford; sisters Betsy Ewing of Kittery Point, Maine, Bonnie Ewing of Stratham, and Laurie and her husband Christer Ericsson of Portsmouth. She also leaves several loving nieces and nephews and shared a special relationship with Benjamin and Taylor Emery.

Mandy spent her last year at the Taylor Community, where her friendly, kind personality quickly grew into new friendships.

There will be a private burial at Linwood Cemetery in Haverhill, Massachusetts.

A celebration of life will be announced later.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) — New Hampshire Humane Society, P.O. Box 572, Laconia, NH 03247.
