MEREDITH — Lakes Region VNA recently announced the addition of Rev. David Poole as a hospice chaplain and Dawn Alvarez as bereavement coordinator. Their expertise and dedication strengthen the organization’s mission of providing compassionate, high-quality care to patients and families during life’s most challenging moments.
Poole brings over 12 years of hospice chaplaincy and bereavement coordination experience to Lakes Region VNA. Ordained in 1997, he has served congregations across Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Ohio, and Michigan. A self-described “regular guy,” Poole’s approachable demeanor and unwavering compassion make him a trusted presence for patients and families navigating illness and loss.
Poole discovered his passion for hospice care while serving in parish ministry. Alongside his chaplaincy work, he has taken on various roles, including Volunteer Coordinator, Liaison, and even custodian, always exemplifying his dedication to teamwork and adaptability.
“I’m thrilled to join the Lakes Region VNA team,” said Poole. “Providing emotional and spiritual support to patients and families is a privilege, and I look forward to being part of this compassionate community.”
Alvarez joins Lakes Region VNA with over 25 years of experience as a social worker in the Lakes Region. An active member of the Association for Death Education and Counseling, Alvarez has a deep understanding of the psychological, biological, and sociological factors that shape grief and bereavement. Her work is grounded in fostering trust and open communication, creating a supportive environment where patients and families can navigate the emotional complexities of illness and loss.
“It is a privilege to walk alongside families as they experience some of life’s most challenging moments,” said Dawn Alvarez. “I am inspired every day by the resilience and strength of the individuals I work with and am honored to be part of the Lakes Region VNA team.”
