WOLFEBORO — How do democracies become vulnerable to authoritarianism? What allows authoritarian movements to gain power — and what can citizens and communities do to resist them?

The Wolfeboro-Tuftonboro Democrats will explore these questions in a public presentation featuring Rev. Christana Wille McKnight on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 6:30 p.m. at the Wolfeboro Public Library.

McKnight will examine how authoritarian movements develop and the conditions that allow them to grow. She will also look at examples of how people and democratic societies have successfully resisted authoritarianism and what those experiences can teach us today.

McKnight is a New Hampshire-based minister and community leader with experience in community organizing, governance, and building inclusive communities. She currently serves as island minister and community project manager for Star Island Corporation.

The program is part of the Wolfeboro-Tuftonboro Democrats’ ongoing effort to bring informative discussions about democracy, government, and civic life to the community.

The event is free and open to everyone, regardless of political affiliation. All are welcome.
