MEREDITH — Kim Fallon, retired chief forensic investigator at the NH Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, will visit the Meredith Public Library on Tuesday, July 14, at 6 p.m. Fallon will share the details of the infamous Smuttynose Island axe murders of 1873 in nearby Kittery, Maine. Although there are several theories and even a conviction, these grisly murders remain one of New England's notorious murder sprees and the true motivation remains a mystery.

During her talk, Fallon will explain how the case would be investigated with modern CSI methods if it happened today. She will also explain the creation and evolution of the medical examiner's system which began in England in the 12th century. She will also give a brief history of the New Hampshire Medical Examiner's office (including its responsibilities) since its founding in 1986.
