MEREDITH — The Meredith Public Library will celebrate the 125th anniversary of the opening of its beautiful brick building on Main Street in downtown Meredith.

The library building was a gift from a former town resident named Benjamin M. Smith who paid over $10,000 dollars, which was the entire cost of the project. He made this generous donation in honor of his parents, John and Mary Smith. The original bronze plaque unveiled at the building's opening and dedication ceremony in June of 1901 can still be seen in the front vestibule of the library.

In honor of the occasion, the staff of the library has planned a special anniversary celebration which will consist of a presentation by Library Director Erin Apostolos, a Lego replica of the library, an anniversary cake, storytime with library-theme coloring page, artifacts from the early 1900s, and more.

The celebration will be on Saturday, June 6, at 11 a.m. The public is invited to attend the event and celebrate a 125-year-old gift to the people of Meredith —a gift that truly keeps on giving.
