Susan Price: Mayberry is pure New Hampshire; Mowers is anything but

As the Republican Primary approaches for our congressional delegation we are offered two choices; Matt Mayberry, a 35-year N.H. resident, U.S. Air Force veteran and former Dover city councilor or Matt Mowers of New Jersey.

Mr. Mowers, after 17 months of N.H. occupancy, apparently meets the minimum residency requirement to run and has never actually participated in a town meeting, let alone run or hold elected office in the Granite State. With this introduction you can guess which Republican primary candidate my wife, Betsy Staber, and I support. The Granite State deserves to be represented in Congress by someone who has lived in our great state for more than a token amount of time and understands the needs and important issues that affect Granite Staters. There is only one clear choice for House District 1 voters in the Republican Primary AND the General Election; Matt Mayberry.

Matt Mayberry knows how to solve problems. When N.H. veterans struggling with post traumatic stress were cut-off from mental health providers because the VA was slow to pay, Mr. Mayberry brought the issue to the attention of Congressman Pappas. Mr. Pappas serves on the Veterans Affairs Committee and is the CHAIR of the Investigation and Oversight Subcommittee (We find it interesting that a man who has never actually served in the Armed Forces would even be placed on the VA Committee but that is undoubtedly the hand of Senator Shaheen teeing up the ball for someone who has never played golf, so to speak.) Did Pappas pick up the phone and call the VA Administrator? NO.

Did Pappas keep up the pressure to have critical mental health providers paid and restore access to suffering veterans? NO. Pappas’ response; write a letter, presumably cross his fingers and wait for the problem not to be solved. Mayberry’s response; raise money quickly from private citizens (paid directly to the practice) and restore N.H. veterans’ suffering from PTS access to mental health counseling. Oh, and by the way, Pappas made not one contribution to solve this problem unless you count checking off a box by writing a letter. This experience with our Democratic First District congressman led Matt Mayberry to throw his hat into the ring and replace Pappas.

The distinction between Matt Mayberry, Mowers and Pappas could not be better defined. Do you want a person who has lived in the state for one or two years, knows nothing of what it takes to be a Granite Stater, or the current office holder who writes letters and hopes for the best (which could have been the worst for these struggling veterans, if not for Matt Mayberry). OR, do you want a man that actually solves problems? We chose the problem solver and we encourage you to join us with your support for Matt Mayberry on September 8 in the Republican Primary and on November 3 in the General Election in becoming our next congressman for Congressional District 1.
