Laconia voters have some choices in the upcoming elections. I'd like to tell them about someone I've known for a very long time that is running. Knowing Denise Riley for 46 years, she has consistently demonstrated qualities that are valuable to voters as she seeks to serve in the New Hampshire Legislature.

Denise is a responsible, hardworking single homeowner in Laconia. She understands firsthand the responsibilities that come with owning a home and the financial pressures facing people who are trying to afford housing in New Hampshire. Her interest in addressing the rising cost of housing comes from an understanding of how important stable, affordable housing is to individuals, families, and communities.

Her professional experience is also significant. As an investigator for the public defender’s office, Denise has spent years gathering information, listening carefully, examining circumstances, and working with people from many different backgrounds. That kind of experience requires responsibility, attention to detail, fairness, and the ability to understand complicated situations before reaching conclusions.

What stands out most to someone who has known Denise for nearly five decades, however, is the person behind the résumé. Forty-six years provides a pretty good opportunity to see someone's character — not just during election season, but over the course of a lifetime.

Residents of Laconia and the surrounding area have an important decision to make when choosing their representatives.
