Sheila Kufert: Israel is only nation on Earth tasked with protecting own people and enemies

Reply to James Veverka. Israel, like the USA, has left and right political parties. One thing Israelis do agree on though is that another Oct. 7 can’t happen again. Hamas has said that they plan to repeat the horrors over and over until they get their way which is the elimination of Israel and death to all the Jews.

Every time Palestinians pay the price for horrific, self-destructive violence, their defenders point the finger at Israel. Hamas, the political entity of Gaza, overwhelming choice of Palestinian civilians, launched this round of the conflict by massacring, sexually torturing and kidnapping Israelis attending a music festival and asleep in their beds. Palestinians took hundreds of these hostages back to the Gaza Strip, a place Arabs have political autonomy over for nearly 20 years — and held them in the middle of densely populated areas hoping to dissuade Israel from liberating them, or, if it did, to create as many martyrs as possible.

Israel is the only nation on Earth tasked with protecting its own people and its enemies. Every innocent lost life is a tragedy. But if you don’t want to be placed in harm’s way, don’t hold hostages in your homes and neighborhoods, and don’t cheer and support a government that puts your life in constant danger.

The cease-fire deal and two state “solution” being pushed by President Joe Biden (chumming for antisemitic votes), Hamas continues to reject.

Would not the USA act the same way as Israel if some homicidal cult had our people?

The war could end today if the hostages were returned and Hamas would unconditionally surrender and accept Israel’s existence. Israel haters, who fashion themselves peaceniks, will blame everyone — Benjamin Netanyahu, Biden, colonialism, racism, etc., except for the true cause of this war.
