To The Daily Sun,
City elections for Franklin will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 7.Â
I applaud everyone who has stepped up to the plate with the desire to serve our city. Those who win will sacrifice time away from their families and friends. Hours upon hours will be spent conducting research, attending a multitude of meetings, performing mathematical calculations, reading RSAs, the city charter, etc. Criticism of everything they do will be in no short supply.Â
They'll likely experience sleep deprivation, late nights, be hungry, weary, and question whether they made the right decision to run for office. Then, just when they’re ready to give up, they’ll meet with, receive a phone call or email from a constituent who will thank them and tell them that they’re making a difference. At that moment, they’ll be energized and reminded that the sacrifice is worth it.Â
Come Tuesday, whether they’re elected or not ... I thank them for stepping up ... and please continue to do so. This city needs them — with or without a title.
