Petty Officer 2nd Class William Wheeler, of Barnstead, is currently serving in the U.S. Navy, assigned to Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Florida. Wheeler graduated from Prospect Mountain High School in Alton in 2018. The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Barnstead. “There are a lot of lakes around Barnstead, so swimming was a must,” Wheeler said. “I was stationed in Japan, so I’ve swum during our port visits in Guam and Okinawa.
