John McCormack: McConnell will be remembered as spineless Republican who chose to look other way

Recently, Sen. Mitch McConnell has caused a stir in Washington by openly defying President Donald Trump. McConnell was a no-vote for several of Trump's nominees. While I am glad the senator has suddenly found his moral compass and courage, what took so long? Maybe the better question is, where is the rest of his party? If McConnell really wanted to have his Profile in Courage moment it should have been back in 2021. During Trump's second impeachment, McConnell called President Trump's actions "a disgraceful dereliction of duty" but ultimately chose to acquit the president. If McConnell, the Minority leader at the time, had voted to convict, it's more than likely he would have convinced members of his party to vote the same. His vote that day will be his legacy. We could have all been spared Trump 2.0 and this convicted felon would not be sitting in the Oval Office today. McConnell will be remembered only as one of the many spineless Republicans who chose to look the other way.
