Jim Mayotte: Those hating America and burning flag should be in prison

What did readers do on July 4, 2025? Did they celebrate living in America? Were they proud of living in America? 

I can’t understand how Americans can burn the flag on July 4, or any day. What does it prove? Does it prove that they hate America? If they are an illegal immigrant, waving a Mexican flag, they should go home to Mexico.

I come from a military family, my father, my brothers, my son, we are all veterans. Did we agree on politics? No, not today and probably not tomorrow. However, if we saw someone burning the flag of the United States, we would try to stop it.

Those that burn the flag, I believe, should go to prison. If they are proud of burning our flag, go to a VFW, American Legion, Amvets or other organizations and shout out, "I hate the USA and I burned the flag." After all, I am proud to say that I am a veteran and I do not burn the flag.

For those Donald Trump haters, many of us did not like President Joe Biden but we did not burn the flag. God bless the USA and President Trump.
