James Veverka: Western media's complicity in Gaza

Without the Western media's suppression of Israel's depravity, the slaughter in Gaza would have been harder. Never in history have war crimes been so proudly confessed to by its perpetrators. From the start, Israel's leaders declared that Gaza's civilians were human animals and that every Palestinian was responsible for Oct. 7. They declared openly that the essentials of life would be cut off and Gaza would be destroyed. No predictor of Israel's intentions was clearer than what they told the world they'd do. With few exceptions, the Western media suppressed or minimized Israel's war crimes and smeared dissenters as dangerous extremists and antisemites. They treated Palestinian lives as inferior to Israeli lives. They pretended that the clock started on Oct. 7, but that clock started ticking in 1948, when 700,000 Palestinians were violently expelled from their homes and villages, forbidden forever to return. They erased and demonized Palestinian voices and systematically presented despicable false narratives. They legitimized the destruction of hospitals, schools, universities, mosques, agricultural fields and civilian infrastructure. The Western media ignored the horror when Israel repeatedly bombed "safe zones" where the predators had trapped their prey. Murdering families, intentional starvation, and the torture and rape of Palestinians were largely unreported as they did Israel's work. They are complicit in the largest killing of journalists in war history, silent when their colleagues were targeted and murdered. Israel dropped 90,000 tons of mostly U.S.-made bombs on a place the size of Philadelphia. The Allies dropped 153,000 tons of explosives on Germany. Now we have another president who is deliberately ignoring international law. Donald Trump is now suggesting that Gaza needs to be ethnically cleansed. "Clean it out" and move them to Egypt and Jordan, he says, repeating the Israeli government's diabolical intentions to violate humanitarian laws. We're exceptional all right.
