David Matteson: If situation was reversed would both parties still have same positions?

To The Daily Sun,

I am tired of partisan politics. When the two parties take completely opposite positions I look to see if the situation was reversed would both parties still have the same positions. Most times the answer is no.

If The Proud Boys instead of BLM had marched and caused millions of dollars in damage and several people had been wounded and killed would Democrats have said that the protests were mostly peaceful? If Barack Obama had lost re-election and his supporters had stormed the Capitol causing millions of dollars in damages and injuring over 100 Capitol policemen would Republicans have called it a peaceful protest and a day of love? If Donald Trump shows signs of cognitive decline like Joe Biden did toward the end of his term will Republicans ignore the signs like Democrats did? If Biden had lined up electric cars at the White House to push his green initiative would Republicans have been OK with that? If Hillary Clinton or Kamala Harris had leaked battle plans on Signal to a reporter would Republicans have thought that it was OK or pushed for their resignations? If Biden had announced tariffs and the stock market had crashed would Republicans be patient waiting to see if the end result was positive?

To me the biggest issue is that voters are willing to go along with the lies. Voters defend almost anything said or done by their party but against similar behavior when the opposing party does it. If voters would hold both parties accountable maybe we would see some change.

I think or at least hope that most people are dissatisfied with both parties but unfortunately in most elections there are only two choices, Republican or Democrat so we are forced to choose the lesser of two evils.
