Cody Pfaff: Candidate’s survey response about Gunstock Mountain

To The Daily Sun,

I was recently asked in a candidate survey about my position on Gunstock Mountain Resort. Specifically, whether I supported leasing or selling this county operation.

My response was exactly this: "I would not support selling or leasing county assets without strong evidence that doing so would clearly benefit the people of Belknap County."

The relevant RSA specific to Gunstock expressly forbids that. The Belknap County Delegation and the Gunstock Area Commission have no statutory power to change the existing structure without a drastic change to the law. That would require passage through the House, the Senate, along with the governor's signature. There is no will on anybody's part to do such a thing. It's certainly nothing I would advocate or support. I had an opportunity to meet with one of the Gunstock Area Commissioners to gain a better understanding of the resort’s operations and its importance to Belknap County. The conversation further reinforces my belief that Gunstock is a valuable asset to our county.

As a candidate for state representative in Belknap County District 5 ― and eventually as an elected representative ― I believe it is my responsibility to listen, ask questions, and make informed decisions based on facts. I will continue working to protect taxpayer interests while preserving the assets that make Belknap County a great place to live, work and visit.
