To the editor,

As a former Fire Engineer I write in strong support of Mark LaBonte for Gilford Fire Engineer. Mark is a 25-year veteran of the Gilford Fire Department, who has demonstrated his strong commitment to community through his service to the Town. During my time as Fire Engineer, Mark was a familiar face at meetings, contributing in a positive manner.

Recently it has come to my attention that Mark is being painted as being pro-union or even a union patsy. I have known Mark on both a personal and professional level for many years and nothing could be further from the truth.

It is important to know that Gilford Firefighters have been affiliated with the International Association of Firefighters since 1993. Mark voiced his opposition to this affiliation then and reaffirmed his opposition when the firefighters recently petitioned for collective bargaining.

I find it curious that in all the years that the firefighters could have petitioned for collective bargaining they never felt the need until the incumbent arrived on scene.

Mark has proven his worthiness for this position. Please join me in voting Mark LaBonte Gilford Fire Engineer on March 8th.
