GILFORD — Milo L. Pike, paving legend, entrepreneur and philanthropist, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, at the age of 95.

Born on Aug. 15, 1930, to Randolph Kelley Pike and Beatrice (née Towle) Pike in Laconia, Milo was an only child who excelled in sports when he reached high school. A guard on the basketball team, Milo was also an excellent pitcher on the baseball field where he earned a tryout with a semi pro team upon high school graduation.

Following his high school years, Milo married Cecile Morin, his high school sweetheart and they eventually settled on North Main Street and had two children, Cynthia Baron of Gilford and Randolph (Patty) Pike of Gilmanton. It was in the 1950s when Milo joined his dad at LM Pike and Son and put his business mind to work. Better at making things happen than sitting in a classroom, Milo began his journey to make Pike the biggest and the best paving company in New England.

The 1960s and '70s marked the next phase in Milo’s life. While continuing to grow the company (in 1966 Pike was stretched between I-87 and the Adirondack Mountains of New York to I-95 in Houlton, Maine) he married Carol Phelps and welcomed their daughter Miki Lee Pike in 1965. Residing then on Governors Island, the 1960s and '70s marked the peak of Milo’s community service work. Serving on and leading the Lakes Region General Hospital board, Milo’s fundraising efforts led to a massive expansion of the facility. This was the work Milo was most proud of.

The late 1970s and '80s marked the next chapter in Milo’s life. In September of 1981, Milo married Olympic skier Penny Pitou. Milo, Penny and her two boys, Christian and Kim Zimmermann, resided in Gilford, on Potter Hill Road. These were fun times for Milo and Penny as they jointly led many ski trips with Penny Pitou traveling through the Swiss Alps and other ski meccas across Europe. Penny would take the A skiers and Milo would take the B skiers (those who preferred lengthy luncheons and less strenuous ski conditions). Milo and Penny continued the goal of giving back to the community and both were active participants and donors to the Lakes Region Charitable Foundation. In 1988, Milo sold Pike industries to CRH, a publicly held construction materials business based in Dublin, Ireland. Not wanting to pursue the paving business any longer, Milo retired and moved on to new adventures.

The 1990s through his passing marked the final chapter in Milo’s life. Milo and his longtime companion Jill Weeks spent over 30 years together, splitting their time between Florida, and New Hampshire. Together they enjoyed traveling the world, seeing new things, and creating new memories. The Pike family would like to thank Jill for her unwavering support of Milo and for the care she provided in his final months.

In addition to his three children, Milo leaves six grandchildren, Jeremy (Tracy) Baron of Gilford, Jill Trimble of Gilford, Lindz LaPlante of Concord, Andrew (Bailey) Pike of Gilford, Jagger Richer of Salt Lake City, and River Richer of Laconia. His great-grandchildren include Brooke and Addison Baron, Blake and Baron Trimble and Crew, Baker and Leo Pike.

Currently there are no services or calling hours scheduled, but a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
