MEREDITH — A two-car accident injured two people, and sent one to the hospital, in a Route 104 crash on Thursday morning. One car was rear-ended after slowing down for crossing turkeys.
Police Lt. Phil McLaughlin said officers responded to the accident at 8:46 a.m. on June 25, just after the intersection with Upper New Hampton Road, in the north lane. He said the driver of a black Nissan Rogue was rear-ended by a red Dodge Charger that couldn’t slow down in time.
“Dodge tried to slow as well, but was unable to avoid a collision,” McLaughlin wrote in an email on Thursday.
The Charger could be seen stopped in the north lane, heavily damaged on the front end, around 9:10 a.m. The Rogue was being loaded onto a wrecker after an ambulance left the scene. Two Meredith Police cars, along with one Meredith Fire engine, and a command vehicle driven by Fire Chief Ken Jones, were at the scene.
Stewart’s Ambulance took the Nissan driver to Concord Hospital-Laconia to be treated for a suspected back injury. The driver of the Charger refused to be taken to the hospital, and left the scene in a private car.
Chief Michael Harper was detouring traffic from Route 104 onto Upper New Hampton, which brought traffic out onto Blake Road. Route 104 was closed to southbound traffic past the turn for Upper New Hampton Road as the accident was cleared. Stanford Towing removed both vehicles from the road.
