CONCORD — State Rep. Michael Murphy (R-Gorham), elected earlier to serve Coos 6, the district that includes Gorham, Randolph and Shelburne, has resigned from that position. The notice of the resignation came on May 22 from the office of the New Hampshire House Clerk.
Coos 6 voters returned Murphy to the House on Nov. 5, 2024. Murphy ran against Randolph resident Maggie Baker, a Democrat. She decided not to pursue her candidacy. Her name remained on the ballot, however.
Murphy was the GOP candidate on Jan. 23, 2024, when he won the Coos District 6 race. He defeated former State Rep. Edith Tucker (D-Randolph) in a special election following the resignation of former state Rep. William Hatch (D-Gorham). Hatch resigned his seat for health reasons.Â
Before the November 2024 election, Murphy prevailed in the November 2023 GOP primary, defeating fellow Gorham resident Don Lacasse.
Murphy most recently was a sponsor of House Bill 1078, creating a Gold Star family and Gold Star father license plate. The legislation passed in both Statehouse chambers. Gov. Kelly Ayotte signed the bill into law on May 18.
