School tax cap, public works lead Belmont’s Wednesday selectboard meeting

BELMONT — The selectboard will talk about the school tax cap, and hear public works updates, at their upcoming meeting on Wednesday

Public works topics will seemingly dominate the meeting with several updates, including about the July 16 water main break on Main Street. There’s also a request to purchase a dual drum roller. This particular machine is used to pack down asphalt, soil or gravel.

There will also be a discussion on the Water & Sewer Ordinance, along with potential rate changes.

New Hampshire House Bill 1300, passed in June, limits local school property tax revenue growth to the previous year’s level. The number is then adjusted for inflation, and includes new construction value, according to the Department of Revenue Administration. The bill also limits district spending.

It’s a hot topic across the Granite State, and Belmont leaders will discuss the matter on Wednesday.

Quotes related to the demolition of the bank building will be discussed by Town Administrator Alicia Jipson.

The Belmont Fire Department will introduce its newest member, firefighter Zac Hunter.

Finally, hawkers and peddlers, those pesky door-to-door salespeople, will be addressed in an ordinance to help regulate their activity.

During old business, staff will provide significant updates related to the Winnipesaukee River Basin Program, including the Route 140 force main and the creation of a separate Regional Wastewater Authority Commission.

Jipson will also provide the latest information on a townwide notification system update, as well as relay details of Plan NH’s, “It started with a Charrette - Belmont.”
