MOULTONBOROUGH — A fire that apparently started in a garage destroyed a home on Moultonborough Neck on Friday.
Emergency responders were called to a home on Hanson Mill Road a few minutes before 1 p.m. on Sept. 6 for a report of a garage fire. The fire spread to a residence, and caused “significant damage” to the home, according to a press release put out by the Moultonborough Fire Department.
It appears the fire started in the garage, though the exact cause was not immediately known. There were no injuries associated with the fire, but the home was left uninhabitable.
The intensity of the fire required one engine to provide “exposure protection” to keep it from spreading to a nearby structure, and to put out a brush fire sparked by the blaze.
A GoFundMe campaign was established to assist the family, identified as the Demonds. The campaign had a goal of $20,000, and had exceeded $27,000 by Monday afternoon.
The firefighting effort included crews from Moultonborough as well as Holderness, Tuftonboro and Sandwich, and assistance from Stewart’s Ambulance. Tamworth and West Ossipee provided station coverage.
In the wake of the fire, the Moultonborough Fire Department emphasized the importance of working smoke detectors in every room, particularly in areas where fires are prone to start, such as garages and kitchens and near heat sources such as outdoor grills.
