MOULTONBOROUGH — Moultonborough Police Chief Peter Beede Jr. was placed on leave this week.
He was on leave as early as Wednesday, but the exact date is not yet known.
“The chief’s still with us. He’s on leave,” said Lt. Mark Cavic via phone on Friday, and referred all further questions to Town Hall.
Town Administrator Angela Bovill confirmed the chief was on leave.
“I can confirm that the Police Chief is currently on leave,” she wrote in an email to The Daily Sun. “I have no further comment at this time.”
The circumstances surrounding his leave are unknown, and The Sun was not able to confirm whether or not Beede is still being paid.
Moultonborough Selectboard member, Karel A. Crawford, reached by email Friday, declined to comment on the matter.
Beede has been with the Moultonborough Police Department for almost 35 years. He was installed as chief of police in 2022, leading a 14-member team. His entire career has been with the Moultonborough department.
