GILFORD — The selectboard will vote on acceptance of a $1,500 Spark Good Local Grant from Walmart on Wednesday night, among other business.
Spark Good Local grants, according to the Walmart website, are local cash grants of between $250 and $5,000, awarded each year from Walmart stores, distribution centers and Sam’s Club locations across the country. Town Administrator Scott Dunn said this particular grant is through the Walmart in Gilford.
Grants are awarded through an open application process for eligible organizations that serve the same area as the facility from which they are requesting. Applications are accepted and reviewed through three cycles, and up to 25 applications are allowed for each organization.
Eligible organizations not only include government entities like the Town of Gilford, but also include public charities; public or nonprofit private schools, charter schools, community and junior colleges, state and private colleges, and universities; and churches or other faith based organizations like food pantries, soup kitchens and clothing closets.
Public Works Director Meghan Theriault will also be updating the selectboard about progress being made on the $11.2 million-garage, expected to be completed this summer.
Theriault is also scheduled to discuss the purchase and installation of new radio equipment.
At the May 13 meeting, Theriault told the selectboard construction of the building was on track to be ready for August occupancy, and spent 50% of its budget. She applauded the work of Bonnette Page & Stone, and awaited their projected final cost, which she said would be presented to the selectboard once completed.
Theriault said in the last meeting the garage side was preparing for concrete pouring. She also said the siding was finished, and window installation was taking place.
Theriault also anticipated metal framing would be finished last week, which was to be followed by ceiling caps and installing dry wall on the administrative side’s fire wall.
Theriault has been updating the selectboard regularly about the construction progress, and while there were some minor, weather related-snags, the project appears to be right on schedule.
The selectboard will also be discussing Gilford Town Beach winter operations.
Under new business, the selectboard is expected to vote on approval of a Stress Absorbing Membrane Seal contract for paving projects in town. The selectboard will be voting on a contract extension for lawn care in 2026, as well. The board will also vote on the approval of an employee’s out-of-state travel request, as is customary.
The Gilford Selectboard will meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, in the Town Hall Conference Room. To view the agenda, visit gilfordnh.gov/agenda/Regular-Meeting-3711.
