Members of the Laconia Friendship Club celebrated the group's 70th anniversary at Laconia Country Club Wednesday afternoon. The Friendship Club offers a place for senior citizens to socialize. To celebrate the 70th anniversary, members enjoyed a luncheon, with the option of crusted haddock or beef sirloin, followed by chocolate cake. The Friendship Club was founded in April of 1955 as the Laconia Senior Club, but when senior centers were created in the '80s, the group changed its name to distinguish it from city- and state-sponsored programs. The Friendship Club is also a group of givers, donating to various community organizations like St. Vincent de Paul’s food bank, the Belknap County Nursing Home, Reuben’s Ranch, Court Appointed Special Advocates, Isaiah 61, Belknap House and Meals on Wheels.
